Dr. Arindam Basu, Director General of the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA),
Ghaziabad is a B. Tech. in Textile Technology from Calcutta University and M.Text. from Bombay
University and was placed in First Class in both of them. He completed his Ph. D. from the University
of Leeds, England in Textile Engineering during the year 1991.Also he worked at NC State University,
North Carolina, USA as Post Doctoral Fellow for a short period (3 months).
He is presently Chairman, Textile Division, BIS and Chairman, Textile Industry, BEE.
He has more than 37 years experience in Industry and Research. He is working as Director of various
Institutes since 2002. From June 2002 to January 2011 he was the Director of South India Textile
Research Association (SITRA), from January 2011 to March 2014 he was Director of Central Silk
Technological Research Institute (CSTRI), Central Silk Board and joined NITRA as Director General
during March 2014 and working since then. He has experience in industry over 6 years which
includes Jaya Shree Textiles a company under Aditya Birla Group, as Deputy Manager for more than
3 years.
He has completed more than 30 Government sponsored projects successfully. He has taken lead role
in development of various machineries and instruments and have ten patents in his credit. Many of
these developments are used by the Industry. He has published more than 150 articles in
International and National Journals and presented papers in more than 60 seminars. He is honorary
fellows of the Textile Association, India and Society of Applied Biotechnology. He is a chartered
engineer and Fellow of Institution of Engineers. He received Gold medals from Institution of
Engineers twice, his books received best books twice from the Textile Association of India beside
other awards.
